Shipping conditions
How a shipment entrusted to TM Italy Import Export actually works: rates, packaging, pickup, customs and delivery. These conditions supplement the conditions of carriage and use the same definitions.
Quotes and rates
The rate is calculated in real time from the data entered in the shipment form: destination, weight, dimensions and service chosen. The price shown covers the transport and the handling of the file; import duties and taxes are excluded.
The chargeable weight is the greater of actual and volumetric weight. If the parcel turns out to differ from what was declared when it is collected, the rate is recalculated and the difference charged or refunded.
Packaging
Packaging is the sender's responsibility and must protect the contents against impact, compression and vibration for the whole journey.
- Use double-wall cardboard or rigid containers for fragile goods.
- Fill empty space and protect the corners.
- Close the parcel with packing tape along every seam.
- Remove labels from previous shipments and attach the waybill where it is clearly visible.
Pickup and delivery
Collection takes place within the time window agreed when the order is placed; the goods must be ready and packed at the start of that window. A wasted journey caused by goods that are not ready or by a wrong address may be charged.
Delivery is deemed performed on the first successful attempt at the address given, against the signature of the consignee or of a person present at their home or place of business.
Documents and customs formalities
Shipments outside the European Union require a commercial or proforma invoice, a detailed description of the goods, the customs code and, where required, certificates of origin or specific licences.
We prepare the customs file on the basis of the documents supplied by the sender, who remains responsible for their accuracy and completeness. Incomplete documents are the most frequent cause of customs holds.
Duties, taxes and charges
Unless agreed otherwise, import duties and taxes are payable by the consignee and are requested by the customs authority of the country of destination before delivery.
If the consignee refuses to pay them, the amounts and any storage or return charges are billed to the sender.
Storage and failed delivery
After an unsuccessful delivery attempt the goods are held in storage for the period provided by the service chosen; once that period expires they are returned to the sender and the return costs charged.
Goods that are neither collected nor returnable may be released or sold as provided by Articles 1514 et seq. of the Italian Civil Code, after notice to the sender.
Tracking
Every shipment receives a tracking number, sent by email and available from the home page and the client area. The statuses come from the carrier's system and may be updated a few hours after the actual event.
